2015 NBA Trades

New Orleans acquired 2016 second round pick (#39-David Michineau); 2017 second round pick (#34-Frank Mason) from Philadelphia 76ers for Ish Smith.

Memphis gained a modest hindsight edge over Miami Heat, receiving Mario Chalmers; James Ennis III for Beno Udrih; Jarnell Stokes.

Golden State finished with a modest edge. The Warriors acquired Jason Thompson; 76ers' option to swap 2016 first round picks (less favorable of Heat (protected top 10), Thunder (protected top 15) picks) with Warriors (not exercised) from Philadelphia 76ers for Gerald Wallace; 76ers' option to swap 2016 first round picks with Warriors (not exercised); cash considerations.

Boston acquired Zoran Dragic, a future second-rounder and cash from Miami in July 2015 for a conditional 2019 second-round choice that never conveyed. Dragic did not become a Celtics rotation player, but the incoming draft and cash assets provided value. The eventual 2020 No. 50 selection is associated with Skylar Mays through its rights chain, not a Boston playing tenure.

On July 27, 2015, the Celtics and Warriors finalized David Lee's move to Boston for Gerald Wallace and Chris Babb, after an agreement earlier in the month. Lee played 30 Boston games before being waived in February 2016. Golden State flipped Wallace with additional consideration for Jason Thompson in a separate July 31 deal. Slight Celtics Edge, Boston B- and Warriors C+.

Cleveland acquired 2 trade exceptions / cash considerations for Brendan Haywood, Mike Miller and 2 additional assets; the completed outcomes give the Cavaliers a modest realized-value edge.

Miami and Orlando Magic produced a stronger realized return for Magic in the 2015-07-27 exchange: 2016 second-round pick (protected top 55 in 2016, else extinguished) (not exercised) for Shabazz Napier; cash considerations.

Cleveland acquired 2019 second round pick (#41-Eric Paschall) for rights to Rakeem Christmas, producing a clear Cavaliers win on realized player, draft and roster value.

Denver received Nick Johnson; Kostas Papanikolaou; Pablo Prigioni; Joey Dorsey; and 2 additional assets from Houston Rockets, sending Ty Lawson; 2017 second-round pick (#43-Isaiah Hartenstein) in return.

Boston received Perry Jones III, cash and a future second-round draft asset from Oklahoma City in July 2015 for a later second-round selection. Jones did not become an active Celtics rotation player, while the Thunder gained flexibility and a right associated with Kevin Hervey. The inherited slight Celtics edge, B- to Oklahoma City's C+, rests on draft and financial terms rather than direct playing impact.

The Nets acquired Quincy Miller from Pistons in exchange for Steve Blake.

Orlando acquired 2020 second round pick (protected top 55) (not exercised) from Portland Trail Blazers for Maurice Harkless / Moe Harkless.

Indiana and Minnesota Timberwolves produced a stronger realized return for Wolves in the 2015-07-11 exchange.

Atlanta obtained center Tiago Splitter from San Antonio on July 9, 2015, sending draft rights to Giorgos Printezis and a heavily protected 2017 second-round pick that did not convey. Splitter helped provide frontcourt depth but injuries shortened his Hawks stint. The canonical Hawks Win rests on acquiring a playable veteran without sacrificing established roster production.

Dallas received Zaza Pachulia from Milwaukee Bucks and sent 2018 second-round pick (protected top 55) (not exercised) in return.

Detroit won the deal, acquiring Marcus Morris, Reggie Bullock, Danny Granger for 2020 second round pick (#35 – Xavier Tillman).

On July 9, 2015, the Pacers sent former All-Star center Roy Hibbert to the Lakers for a 2019 second-round draft choice. Hibbert started all 81 Lakers regular-season games in 2015-16, totaling 481 points, 398 rebounds and 110 blocks. Indiana traded the incoming pick to Cleveland two weeks later for rights to Rakeem Christmas, who played 30 Pacers games. The 2019 pick ultimately became No. 41 Eric Paschall through later transactions but was drafted by Golden State, not Indiana. Even Trade, B- for each.

Milwaukee Bucks received 2020 second round pick (protected top 55; modified in subsequent trade to protected top 45 in 2020, else unprotected in 2022) (#39-Elijah Hughes). Washington Wizards received Jared Dudley.

New York Knicks received Kyle O'Quinn; Magic's option to swap 2019 second round picks with Knicks (#47-Ignas Brazdeikis). Orlando Magic received Magic's option to swap 2019 second round picks with Knicks (#33-Carsen Edwards); cash considerations. New York ultimately received the stronger realized value.

Philadelphia used cap space on July 9, 2015 to absorb Nik Stauskas, Carl Landry and Jason Thompson from Sacramento while also receiving 2016 and 2017 first-round swap rights and a future Kings first. The 2017 swap moved the 76ers from No. 5 to No. 3, and the future first ultimately conveyed in 2019 at No. 14. Sacramento received only the draft rights to Arturas Gudaitis and Luka Mitrovic while clearing salary for a free-agent push.

Oklahoma City received rights to Tomislav Zubcic; trade exception and sent Luke Ridnour; cash. The counterpart finished with the modest hindsight edge.

The Nets acquired Steve Blake; rights to Rondae Hollis-Jefferson from Blazers in exchange for Mason Plumlee; rights to Pat Connaughton.

The Nets acquired rights to Juan Pablo Vaulet from Hornets in exchange for 2018 second-round pick (less favorable of Cavaliers, Nets) (#55, Arnoldas Kulboka); 2019 second-round pick (#46, Talen Horton-Tucker); cash considerations.

Charlotte acquired Luke Ridnour from Memphis Grizzlies for Matt Barnes.

Charlotte acquired Jeremy Lamb from Oklahoma City Thunder for Luke Ridnour; second round pick (protected #56-60 in 2016, unprotected in 2017) (2016 #53-Petr Cornelie).

Cleveland exchanged rights to Tyus Jones for rights to Cedi Osman, rights to Rakeem Christmas and 2019 second round pick (#40-Justin James), with a narrow realized-value edge to Wolves.

The Pelicans drafted Michigan State defender Branden Dawson at No. 56 in 2015 and sold his rights to the Clippers for cash. Dawson played six Clippers games totaling 29 minutes and five points in 2015-16, after which he made no further NBA appearances. New Orleans obtained a financial return without a player; neither outcome justified a decisive winner. Even Trade, Los Angeles C, New Orleans C+.

Memphis and Phoenix Suns produced broadly comparable realized value in the 2015-06-25 exchange: rights to Andrew Harrison for Jon Leuer.

Milwaukee acquired Greivis Vasquez for Norman Powell’s draft rights and the protected Clippers-origin 2017 first-round pick that became No. 23 O.G. Anunoby, then received only 23 games from Vasquez.

New York acquired rights to Willy Hernangomez from 76ers for 2020 second round pick (#36-Tyler Bey); 2021 second round pick (#50-Filip Petrusev); cash. The value leaned toward New York, but the partner still received meaningful return.

The Hawks received Tim Hardaway Jr. from the Knicks and a future Washington second during the June 2015 draft. New York acquired the draft rights to Jerian Grant through Atlanta, while Washington received Kelly Oubre Jr.'s rights. The inherited Hawks Win gives Atlanta A+, New York F and Washington C. The repaired ledger now includes the previously absent Wizards player rights and Hawks second-round asset.

On June 25, 2015, Utah Jazz acquired cash considerations from Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for rights to Daniel Diez / Dani Díez.

Charlotte acquired Nicolas Batum from Portland Trail Blazers for Gerald Henderson Jr.; Noah Vonleh.

The 2015-06-24 exchange produced broadly comparable realized value: Luke Ridnour for rights to Janis Timma.

Charlotte acquired Spencer Hawes; Matt Barnes from Los Angeles Clippers for Lance Stephenson.

Detroit acquired Ersan Ilyasova from Milwaukee Bucks for Caron Butler; Shawne Williams.

Brooklyn turned the final stage of Kevin Garnett's career into Thaddeus Young, a productive forward who helped immediately and later generated the draft rights to Caris LeVert. Minnesota achieved a meaningful homecoming and mentorship objective, but surrendered the younger, more valuable basketball asset.

Celtics Win. Boston Celtics earns B+; Detroit Pistons earns C+. The Celtics acquired Jerebko as a continuing support contributor and also received a chance to assess Datome, giving them

Boston acquired Isaiah Thomas from Phoenix for Marcus Thornton and a protected 2016 first-round pick on February 19, 2015. Thomas became a two-time Celtics All-Star and finished fifth in 2017 MVP voting, powering the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals team. The Suns did not obtain comparable value from Thornton or the subsequently conveyed draft asset. Celtics Win, Boston A+ and Phoenix D.

Denver received rights to Cenk Akyol; cash from Philadelphia 76ers, sending JaVale McGee; draft rights to Chu Chu Maduabum; first-round pick (protected top 18 in 2015 and top 15 in 2016-17, otherwise 2018 and 2019 second-round picks) (2016 #26-Furkan Korkmaz) in return.

Denver received Will Barton; Victor Claver; Thomas Robinson; 2016 first-round pick (protected top 14 in 2016-17, else 2018 second-round pick (less favorable of Blazers, Kings picks), 2019 second-round pick) (2016 #19-Malik Beasley) from Portland Trail Blazers, sending Arron Afflalo; Alonzo Gee in return.

Detroit acquired Reggie Jackson in a February 2015 three-team trade involving Oklahoma City and Utah. The Thunder received D.J. Augustin, Kyle Singler and a future second-round asset, while the Jazz obtained an additional second-round choice. Jackson became a high-usage Pistons point guard, producing the strongest direct player return. The inherited slight Pistons edge grades Detroit A-, Oklahoma City B and Utah B+.

The long-term value clearly favored Philadelphia 76ers: Houston received K.J. McDaniels from Philadelphia 76ers for Isaiah Canaan; 2015 second-round pick (less favorable of Nuggets, Timberwolves) (#37-Richaun Holmes).

Houston obtained point guard Pablo Prigioni from New York on February 19, 2015, for Alexey Shved and the Rockets' 2017 and 2019 second-round picks. Prigioni appeared in 24 Houston regular-season games plus 17 postseason games during the Rockets' Western Conference Finals run. New York acquired Shved's short-term scoring and two movable selections later associated with No. 58 Ognjen Jaramaz in 2017 and No. 55 Kyle Guy in 2019. Knicks Win narrowly for asset depth; Houston B- and New York B.

New Orleans acquired Ish Smith; rights to Latavious Williams; 2015 second round pick (if this pick is not conveyed from 76ers to Celtics from previous trade, protected top 55 in 2015) (not exercised); cash considerations from Oklahoma City Thunder for 2016 second round pick (less favorable of Kings (protected top 55), Pelicans picks) (not exercised).

On February 19, 2015, Sacramento Kings acquired Andre Miller from Washington Wizards in exchange for Ramon Sessions.

Atlanta decisively won the Adreian Payne trade. The Hawks turned a rookie who had barely entered their rotation into a protected first-round pick that eventually became Kevin Huerter, while Payne produced limited NBA value for Minnesota.

Charlotte acquired Mo Williams; Troy Daniels; cash from Minnesota Timberwolves for Gary Neal; 2019 second round pick (#43-Jaylen Nowell).

In January 2015, the Clippers acquired Austin Rivers from Boston, the Celtics received Chris Douglas-Roberts, Shavlik Randolph and a 2017 second-round choice, and Phoenix obtained Reggie Bullock. The Clippers gained a guard who played several seasons for the franchise. The inherited slight Clippers edge grades both Los Angeles and Boston B+, with Phoenix C.

Boston acquired Nate Robinson on January 13, 2015, by sending Jameer Nelson to Denver. Robinson was waived without a Celtics game in that second stint, while Nelson became a useful Nuggets guard for parts of three seasons. The original low-impact Even Trade and C+ grades are preserved while acknowledging Denver's greater actual playing return.

Celtics Win. Boston’s return aged best because the first-round pick survived the immediate rebuild and became a lottery selection, while Prince and Rivers supplied short-term flexibility. That combination gave the Celtics both present-use pieces and a durable future asset. Memphis still received meaningful value. Green appeared in 98 games for the Grizzlies, averaged 12.6 points per game there, and was later moved for Lance Stephenson and another future first-round pick. New Orleans turned Austin Rivers into Pondexter and a second, a narrower but defensible reshuffling.

Phoenix acquired Brandan Wright from Boston in January 2015 for two future draft rights, associated later with No. 35 Rade Zagorac in 2016 and No. 37 Semi Ojeleye in 2017. Wright's stay in Phoenix was brief, while Ojeleye eventually played for Boston after the rights chain. The inherited Celtics Win assigns Boston B+ and Phoenix C.

Cleveland exchanged first round pick (protected top 18 in 2015, top 15 in 2016-17, else 2018 second round pick and 2019 second round pick) (2016 #26-Furkan Korkmaz) and first round pick in first draft 2 years after Grizzlies send first round pick to Timberwolves via Rockets (protected #1-5, #15-30 in 2015-16, top 5 in 2017-18, unprotected in 2019) (2017 #20-Harry Giles III) for Timofey Mozgov and 2015 second round pick (less favorable of Blazers, Bulls picks) (#53-Sir'Dominic Pointer), with the two sides generating broadly comparable realized value.

The Clippers moved Jared Cunningham, the rights to Cenk Akyol and cash to Philadelphia for the rights to Serhiy Lishchuk. Los Angeles saved nearly $400,000 against the cap, reduced luxury-tax exposure and opened a roster spot; Philadelphia waived Cunningham the same day and kept the cash and Akyol rights. Neither side created meaningful direct NBA player value, so the practical return was financial and roster flexibility on both sides.
