Trade Analysis
This was primarily a financial transaction, and both sides accomplished their immediate objective. Chicago received $1 million, waived Barkley immediately and ultimately surrendered no draft pick when the conditional 2007 second-rounder failed to convey. San Antonio paid cash and received no eventual pick, but the move removed Barkley's contract and was reported at the time as helping the Spurs avoid luxury-tax exposure. With neither side receiving meaningful on-court value and both realizing the intended financial benefit, an Even Trade is the most defensible result.
