Los Angeles Lakers received Heat's agreement not to select Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcindor) in expansion draft and sent Lakers 1991 or 1992 (Heat's choice) second-round pick (1992 #42-Matt Geiger) in the transaction with Miami Heat. Los Angeles protected Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from the 1988 expansion draft for the cost of a future second-round pick that became Matt Geiger; the short remaining Kareem window limits the Lakers' side. The counterpart retained a modest realized-value edge, reflected in the C/B- grade pairing. The evaluation is retrospective: it weighs what the players and draft assets actually became, while still considering role, age, contract timing, competitive-window fit and identifiable downstream asset conversion.
