The Grizzlies’ return produced the stronger hindsight value after player production, draft conversion, role, contract timing and downstream asset use were considered. The advantage is modest: Memphis either acquired the best individual contributor, recovered superior draft capital or reduced the heavier long-term cost. Orlando Magic still received identifiable value, which is reflected in the other team grade rather than treated as a zero-return side.
