Memphis received Shaun Livingston; cash and sent 2012 second-round pick (protected top 55) (not exercised). The Grizzlies’ return produced the stronger hindsight value after player production, draft conversion, role, contract timing and downstream asset use were considered. The advantage is modest: Memphis either acquired the best individual contributor, recovered superior draft capital or reduced the heavier long-term cost. Miami Heat still received identifiable value, which is reflected in the other team grade rather than treated as a zero-return side.
