Memphis received rights to Nick Calathes and sent Grizzlies removed protection on 2016 draft pick previously acquired from Mavericks. the other team produced the stronger hindsight value after player production, draft conversion, role, contract timing and downstream asset use were considered. The disadvantage is clear: the outgoing Grizzlies asset became the best contributor or the incoming package failed to create comparable durable value. Memphis still received some useful return, preventing the evaluation from overstating the loss.
