Memphis acquired Garrett Temple from Sacramento on July 17, 2018 for Ben McLemore, Deyonta Davis, a 2021 second-round pick and cash considerations. The Grizzlies were coming off a 60-loss season and also needed to reduce a crowded guaranteed-contract count. Temple immediately became a starter, appearing in 49 games with 49 starts while averaging 9.4 points and shooting 35.2 percent from three before Memphis moved him at the 2019 deadline.
Temple's Memphis stay lasted only seven months, but he was not a dead-end asset. The Grizzlies packaged him with JaMychal Green in February 2019 and received Avery Bradley from the Clippers. Bradley then played 14 games for Memphis and averaged 16.1 points. That later transaction cannot be credited entirely to Temple because Green was also part of the package, but it shows that Memphis received both immediate starting minutes and some retained trade utility.
Ben McLemore returned to the franchise that drafted him and played 19 games in 2018-19, averaging 3.9 points in 8.3 minutes. Deyonta Davis never appeared in a regular-season game for Sacramento; the Kings waived him on September 22, 2018. Those two players alone would not have given Sacramento the better hindsight result. The stronger part of the return was the future second-round pick, plus the financial value of the cash included in the deal.
The Memphis second eventually landed at No. 46 in the 2021 draft, but Sacramento had already traded it to Toronto at the 2021 deadline for Terence Davis. Davis played 27 games for the Kings immediately after that trade and averaged 11.1 points, then returned for two more seasons. He appeared in 121 regular-season games for Sacramento from 2020-21 through 2022-23. That conversion gives the Kings a longer attributable value chain than McLemore or Deyonta Davis alone, which supports the narrow B+ to B edge.

Davis then played 121 games across three Kings seasons. Memphis received useful immediate value, while Sacramento's draft asset produced the longer realized return.
