Miami received 1988 second-round pick (#40-Orlando Graham) and sent Heat's agreement not to select Danny Young in the 1988 expansion draft in the 1988-06-23 transaction with Seattle SuperSonics. Miami's side produced somewhat better realized value, but the other team still retained enough useful production or asset value to keep the result from being a clear win. The grade weighs realized NBA production, playoff contribution, draft conversion, contract and cap effects, and identifiable downstream asset use rather than simply comparing names on trade day. the other team still receives a C+ grade because the outgoing package had real value, but Miami’s B- return created the stronger franchise outcome. This is a retrospective value judgment based on what the assets became and how they affected the Heat, not a claim that every later development was predictable when the trade was made.
