Miami received rights to Daequan Cook; 2009 second-round pick (#45-Nick Calathes); cash and sent rights to Jason Smith in the 2007-06-28 transaction with Philadelphia 76ers. the other team retained somewhat better long-term value, usually through the stronger player, pick outcome or cleaner asset position, though Miami still received usable value. The grade is based on realized NBA production, draft conversion, contract/cap consequences and identifiable downstream use rather than the reputation of the assets at the moment of the deal. Miami still receives a B- grade because the return was not valueless, but the stronger counterpart return earned a B+ in hindsight.
