Minnesota came out clearly ahead in the 2013 draft-night trade because Gorgui Dieng became the most valuable long-term player in the package. Dieng developed into a dependable starting-caliber center and rotation big, appeared in more than 500 games for Minnesota and later retained enough value to be used in another trade. Shabazz Muhammad supplied several seasons of bench scoring. Trey Burke had useful stretches in Utah and elsewhere but did not become the lead guard his draft position suggested. By turning one lottery pick into two first-round prospects and getting durable rotation value from Dieng, Minnesota created the stronger realized return. The A- grade recognizes a significant win without overstating Muhammad's contribution.
