Trade Analysis
The 2019 move-up for Jarrett Culver was a clear Minnesota miss. Culver arrived as the No. 6 pick with two-way wing upside but never established a reliable offensive role and was moved after only two seasons. Phoenix received Dario Šarić, who became a useful rotation big, and the draft rights to Cameron Johnson. Johnson developed into a high-level shooter, playoff starter and valuable trade asset, giving the Suns substantially more realized value than Minnesota received from Culver. Draft trades always carry prospect uncertainty, but hindsight grading measures the outcome that actually followed. Minnesota spent an established rotation player and a later lottery pick to move up for the player who produced the least durable value in the exchange.
