Trade Analysis
Seattle exchanged Dennis Johnson for Paul Westphal in a star-for-star deal that aged badly because the two players’ post-trade trajectories diverged sharply. Westphal arrived with elite credentials, so Seattle did receive a real star asset and the deal should not be graded as if the return were empty. Injuries, however, limited his Seattle impact, while Johnson remained an elite two-way guard and later became a core piece of multiple Boston championship teams. The long-term durability and postseason value overwhelmingly favored the outgoing side. A D captures a severe realized-value loss without pretending Seattle received nothing.
