Trade Analysis
Seattle’s 1999 deal added Horace Grant for immediate frontcourt help and two second-round picks, but the most valuable long-term asset changed teams in the other direction. Orlando received the rights to Corey Maggette, who became a productive NBA scorer for more than a decade, along with Dale Ellis, Billy Owens and Don MacLean. Grant was still useful and the incoming seconds became Olumide Oyedeji and Bobby Simmons, so Seattle received legitimate value and roster stability. The problem is duration and ceiling: Maggette’s sustained production outweighed the shorter-term veteran return. That makes the trade a the other team Win, but not a catastrophic one.
