Kansas City moved up to No. 23 in the 1979 draft for quarterback Steve Fuller, sending Houston the 31st pick and a 1980 second-rounder. Fuller started 31 games for the Chiefs over four seasons and showed mobility, but he never developed into a long-term franchise quarterback. The Chiefs received real starting value, just not enough to justify the full premium.

Green Bay traded a 1983 third-round pick to Houston in July 1982 for offensive tackle Angelo Fields. Fields did not appear in a regular-season game for the Packers. The third-round asset later moved again and ultimately became the No. 76 selection used by Miami on Charles Benson, so Houston should not be credited with Benson's career directly. Still, the Oilers preserved meaningful draft capital while Green Bay received no on-field return.
