Carolina acquired Greg Olsen from Chicago for a 2012 third-round pick and received nine seasons from one of the best players in franchise history. Olsen caught 524 passes for 6,463 yards and 39 touchdowns as a Panther, made three Pro Bowls and became the first tight end with three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Chicago later traded the acquired pick, never recovering comparable value.
Chicago acquired Brandon Marshall from Miami for third-round picks in 2012 and 2013, reuniting the receiver with Jay Cutler. Marshall immediately became the Bears' primary passing-game weapon and produced three productive seasons, including a 1,508-yard debut campaign in Chicago. Miami converted the picks into additional draft capital but never received a player of comparable impact. The modest acquisition cost and Marshall's elite production give Chicago a decisive win.
Miami traded pick No. 73 to San Diego for Nos. 78 and 183. The Dolphins selected tight end Michael Egnew and receiver B.J. Cunningham; Egnew caught only seven NFL passes and Cunningham never became a Miami regular-season contributor. The Chargers used No. 73 on safety Brandon Taylor, whose career was derailed by knee injuries after only four defensive appearances.
