Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos
Denver acquired Cookie Gilchrist from Buffalo for fellow fullback Billy Joe on February 24, 1965. Gilchrist immediately produced 1,108 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns in 14 games, earning Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro recognition. Joe also gave Buffalo a productive season with 648 scrimmage yards, six touchdowns and a Pro Bowl selection as the Bills repeated as AFL champions.

Denver sent veteran fullback Cookie Gilchrist to Miami and received third- and fifth-round selections in the 1967 draft. Those picks became Mike Current and Fran Lynch, giving the Broncos two chances to turn an aging veteran into younger roster value. Current went on to build a long NFL career, making Denver's draft return more durable than Gilchrist's brief stay with Miami.
