David Bowens NFL Trade History

Denver traded Kendall Watkins to Dallas on August 19, 1998 for a 1999 fifth-round selection. The pick became No. 158, David Bowens. Dallas received immediate roster depth, while Denver converted Watkins into a player who went on to have a lengthy NFL career. Even though much of Bowens' later production came elsewhere, the realized draft value gives Denver the stronger return.

Denver Broncos received 2001 7th round pick (219th overall subsequently traded, Kynan Forney) while Green Bay Packers received David Bowens. Denver received Green Bay's 2001 seventh-round choice. The Broncos later moved that selection in a separate draft-day transaction, so the value credited here should stop with the pick itself rather than treating a later multi-pick move as if it came entirely from this exchange. That outcome supports a C+ grade for Denver Broncos in this trade.

Buffalo acquired defensive lineman David Bowens from Green Bay for tight end Bobby Collins in August 2001. Bowens did not record a regular-season appearance for the Bills and soon continued his career elsewhere. Collins at least appeared in four games for Green Bay and caught one pass for three yards. The production was negligible, but it was still more direct value than Buffalo received, giving the Packers a very modest hindsight win.
