Baltimore acquired running back Errict Rhett from Tampa Bay for a 1999 third-round pick. Rhett gave the Ravens two seasons, including 852 rushing yards and five touchdowns in 1999. Tampa Bay did not simply keep the future pick; it later sent the same selection back to Baltimore for a 1998 fourth-rounder. Both clubs extracted usable value, leaving the original exchange close to even.

Baltimore sent pick No. 104 to Tampa Bay in 1998 for a 1999 third-round selection. The Ravens later packaged that future third in the trade for quarterback Scott Mitchell, who spent only one season in Baltimore. Johnson and retained two additional selections, giving the Dolphins greater total opportunity and enough production to win the exchange despite no star emerging.
