Buffalo acquired Miami's 1973 first-round pick, No. 26, and linebacker Dale Farley for wide receiver Marlin Briscoe and defensive lineman Jim Dunaway. The Bills used No. 26 on Hall of Fame guard Joe DeLamielleure. Miami still received meaningful championship-era value from Briscoe, but Buffalo secured the best long-term player and a franchise cornerstone from the exchange.
Cleveland acquired elite guard Joe DeLamielleure from Buffalo in September 1980 for second- and third-round draft choices. DeLamielleure became a regular on the Browns' offensive line and later reached the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Buffalo used the picks on Chris Williams and Eugene Marve, receiving some roster value but not enough to match the proven high-end lineman Cleveland obtained.
