Los Angeles Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers Win Tier: major
Confidence: high
San Diego acquired Mark Malone while searching for a veteran successor to Dan Fouts. Malone started eight games in 1988 and threw for 1,580 yards, six touchdowns and 13 interceptions before the Chargers moved on the following year. The price was only an eighth-rounder and an untriggered condition, so the downside was limited, but the acquisition did not solve the quarterback problem.
