Marlin Briscoe NFL Trade History

Buffalo acquired Miami's 1973 first-round pick, No. 26, and linebacker Dale Farley for wide receiver Marlin Briscoe and defensive lineman Jim Dunaway. The Bills used No. 26 on Hall of Fame guard Joe DeLamielleure. Miami still received meaningful championship-era value from Briscoe, but Buffalo secured the best long-term player and a franchise cornerstone from the exchange.

St. Louis acquired Marlin Briscoe and Hubie Ginn from Miami, while the Dolphins received Donny Anderson plus separate compensation tied to tight end Jim McFarland. The principal pieces produced little for their new clubs: Briscoe was moved again before the season, and Anderson retired in August without playing for Miami. The limited realized value makes this effectively even.

Minnesota acquired center Doug Dumler from New England for a 1976 eighth-round pick and a 1977 sixth-round pick. Dumler appeared in every regular-season game for the Vikings across 1976 and 1977, providing two seasons of useful line depth. New England used the first pick on Stu Betts and later traded the second for Marlin Briscoe. The Patriots found some secondary value, but Minnesota received the steadier direct return.

Detroit sent Marlin Briscoe to New England for a 1977 sixth-round pick that became Reggie Pinkney. Briscoe gave the Patriots one season, playing 14 games with five starts and 136 receiving yards. Pinkney played 24 games for Detroit over two seasons, started three and intercepted three passes. Neither return was large, but Detroit received slightly more durable value.
