Chronological Timeline
Trade 1 of 3
Dallas acquired Hall of Fame receiver Lance Alworth from the Chargers in May 1971 for Pettis Norman, Ron East and Tony Liscio. The move was connected to the Cowboys' simultaneous Lance Rentzel deal with the Rams, but the Chargers' direct return came from Dallas. Alworth immediately helped a championship offense and scored the first touchdown of Dallas' Super Bowl VI victory.
Trade 2 of 3
San Diego traded defensive tackle Ron East to Cleveland in July 1975 for the Browns' 1977 fifth-round selection, No. 128, later used on quarterback Cliff Olander. Olander appeared in 15 NFL games for the Chargers and made one start, while East gave Cleveland veteran defensive-line help. Neither side found a major long-term prize, so the direct East-for-Olander-pick exchange lands near even.
Trade 3 of 3
Atlanta acquired defensive end Ron East from Cleveland for the 1977 seventh-round choice later used on Ken Randle. East's Falcons tenure was limited and included only one start, but he at least reached the field for Atlanta. Because Randle never appeared in an NFL game, that modest contribution gives the Falcons the better realized return and supports a C+ grade.
