Sid Fournet NFL Trade History

Los Angeles obtained the 1955 second-round choice used on tackle Sid Fournet by sending defensive back Herb Rich to New York. Fournet gave the Rams two seasons and useful line depth, but Rich became an immediate Giants playmaker, producing five interceptions in 1954 and six more in 1955. New York clearly captured the stronger near-term and sustained return.

Pittsburgh acquired Sid Fournet and Dean Derby from the Rams in September 1957 for future draft consideration. The exact Rams pick chain is not fully settled, but Derby's Pittsburgh value is clear: he became an All-Pro and Pro Bowl defensive back and intercepted 21 passes across his NFL career. The Steelers captured the strongest realized player value and earn an A- to the Rams' C.

Kansas City received Bobby Ply and got six seasons of useful secondary depth: 73 games for the Texans/Chiefs, eight starts and nine interceptions, including seven picks during the 1962 AFL championship season. New York got no regular-season games from Ted Greene, who was cut in camp, but Sid Fournet gave the Titans/Jets 28 games and 20 starts over two seasons. Both sides found value, but Kansas City's longer return earns B+ to B-.

Denver and New York completed a nine-player AFL exchange in January 1964, the largest trade in league history at the time. Denver received Dick Guesman, Ed Cooke, Charlie Janerette, Jim Price and Sid Fournet; New York received Gene Prebola, Wahoo McDaniel, Gordy Holz and Bob Zeman. Both sides earn B grades. Denver received greater numerical depth and multiple starters, while New York landed the most recognizable individual piece in McDaniel. The exchange helped both rosters without creating an obvious long-term loser.
