undisclosed draft pick (selection not identified)
Cincinnati Bengals received undisclosed draft pick (selection not identified) from Arizona Cardinals, while Arizona Cardinals received Willie Jones/Willie Lee Jones in the 1973-04-11 deal. In hindsight, Cincinnati Bengals's return did not separate far enough from Arizona Cardinals to justify a higher grade. The final grades are B- for Cincinnati Bengals and B- for Arizona Cardinals, producing a verdict of Even Trade. The rating reflects the documented package, the certainty of the consideration, and the football value that can actually be assigned in hindsight.
St. Louis acquired linebacker Al Beauchamp from Cincinnati in June 1976 and surrendered a future fourth-round choice. Beauchamp appeared in all 14 Cardinals games that season but did not start. Cincinnati later used the returned selection on Jerry Anderson, who played 14 games with one start as a rookie and only 16 NFL games overall, leaving both clubs with limited team-specific production.
1978 eleventh round pick (#293-Calvin Prince / Cal Prince)
St. Louis acquired defensive back Carl Allen from Cincinnati for a future eleventh-round pick, which the Bengals used at No. 293 on Calvin Prince. Allen became a long-term Cardinals starter, appearing in 79 games with 57 starts and 16 interceptions from 1977 through 1982. Cincinnati did not receive comparable production from the late selection.
Cincinnati acquired cornerback Carl Carter from Phoenix on August 21, 1990 for linebacker Chris Chenault. Carter immediately played 15 games and started 11 at right corner for the Bengals. Chenault, by contrast, did not make the Cardinals’ regular-season roster and was waived at final cuts in early September. A straightforward player-for-player swap therefore produced a full season of starting value for Cincinnati and almost none for Phoenix.
