Pete Barnes
Tampa Bay acquired veteran linebacker Pete Barnes from the St. Louis Cardinals on August 6, 1976, initially sending defensive back John Fuller in return. Fuller failed his Cardinals physical and was returned to Tampa on August 20, with a 1977 draft choice substituted as the consideration. Barnes did not make Tampa Bay’s regular-season roster, while St. Louis retained future draft capital.
On 1979-06-06, Arizona Cardinals received Tom Brzoza, while Tampa Bay Buccaneers received undisclosed draft pick. The hindsight verdict is Arizona Cardinals Win, with Arizona Cardinals graded B- and Tampa Bay Buccaneers graded C+. The evaluation credits only the consideration that can be traced confidently and keeps uncertain pick details out of the final judgment.
Arizona Cardinals received Rick DiBernardo from Tampa Bay Buccaneers, sending 1987 twelfth round pick (#313-Mike Shula) the other way. Louis with a full 1986 season, while Shula did not produce NFL playing value, making the Cardinals' side modestly better in hindsight. That outcome supports a B- grade for Arizona Cardinals, and the overall verdict is Arizona Cardinals Win.
Tampa Bay sent defensive lineman Reuben Davis to Arizona on October 13, 1992, for a 1993 third-round pick that became No. 60 and Lamar Thomas. Davis then played 27 games for the Cardinals with 20 starts over the next two seasons. Thomas appeared in 36 Tampa Bay games but started only twice and caught 25 passes, giving Arizona the stronger direct return.
Tampa Bay acquired running back Thomas Jones from Arizona in June 2003 for wide receiver Marquise Walker. Jones rushed for 627 yards at 4.6 yards per carry in his lone Buccaneers season, then went on to a long, productive career elsewhere. Walker never played a regular-season game for Arizona. Tampa Bay therefore received meaningful immediate production for a player who produced no Cardinals return, making the Buccaneers the clear winner.
