Small played one season for the Falcons. Lee, by contrast, returned to Miami and became a multi-year starting lineman through 1989, giving the Dolphins the clear long-term advantage even before considering the extra pick.

  • 1991 twelfth round pick (#331-Joe Brunson (b. 1968-10-15))

Miami Dolphins received

  • Shawn Lee

Miami acquired nose tackle Shawn Lee from Atlanta on September 3, 1990 for a 1991 twelfth-round selection that became pick No. 331, Joe Brunson. Lee gave the Dolphins immediate defensive-line depth after roster cutdowns. Atlanta received future draft capital for a player it was prepared to move, but the extremely late selection produced little NFL value, leaving the transaction with only modest returns on both sides.

  • 1991 twelfth round pick (#331-Joe Brunson (b. 1968-10-15))

Atlanta acquired veteran cornerback Tim McKyer from Miami during the 1991 draft for third- and twelfth-round selections. McKyer started all 16 games in 1991, intercepted six passes and remained a starter for 15 more games in 1992. Miami used the picks on Aaron Craver and Joe Brunson, but neither produced comparable Dolphins value to McKyer's two seasons of starting secondary play.

Atlanta Falcons received

  • 1992 seventh round pick (#182-Tim Paulk)

The resulting players provided little team-specific NFL value for either original club, despite Miami creating several additional opportunities through the draft chain.

Miami moved up 12 spots in the sixth round of the 2004 draft for guard-center Rex Hadnot, sending Atlanta picks No. 186 and No. 219. Hadnot became a four-year Dolphins lineman who appeared in 62 games and started 55. Atlanta selected Etric Pruitt and Quincy Wilson, who combined for only a handful of regular-season appearances with the Falcons. Miami turned a small move up into a durable starter and won decisively.

Atlanta Falcons received

  • Charles Harris

Miami Dolphins received

  • 2021 7th round pick (232nd overall subsequently traded, Phil Hoskins)

Miami traded former first-round edge rusher Charles Harris to Atlanta for a 2021 seventh-round pick. Harris produced three sacks in 13 games for the Falcons in 2020 before leaving in free agency, so Atlanta received a modest one-year contribution. Miami recovered late-round draft capital from a player it no longer planned to keep. Neither side created enough lasting value to establish a meaningful advantage.
