Buffalo Bills received
Rob Johnson
Jacksonville Jaguars received
1998 1st round pick (9th overall, Fred Taylor)
1998 4th round pick (101st overall, Tavian Banks)
Jacksonville sent quarterback Rob Johnson to Buffalo in February 1998 for the ninth and 101st picks. The Jaguars used No. 9 on Fred Taylor, who became the franchise's career rushing leader, and No. 101 on Tavian Banks. Buffalo paid a premium for a quarterback who never became a stable long-term starter, making this one of Jacksonville's most favorable trades.
Buffalo acquired three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud from Jacksonville for picks No. 71 and No. 143. Stroud immediately became a full-time Bills starter and produced 150 tackles with 7.5 sacks across three seasons. Jacksonville later reused both picks in additional draft-day moves, but those chains did not produce comparable long-term Jaguars value. Buffalo received the best direct football asset and clearly won.
Jacksonville acquired Marcell Dareus from Buffalo during the 2017 season for a conditional draft pick that became a 2018 fifth-rounder. Dareus helped fix a struggling run defense and contributed to the Jaguars' AFC Championship Game run. Buffalo cleared a massive contract, selected Wyatt Teller with the eventual No. 166 pick and later traded Teller in a package that produced more draft value, including the selection used on kicker Tyler Bass.
2023 1st round pick (27th overall, Anton Harrison)
2023 4th round pick (130th overall, Tyler Lacy)
Jacksonville sent the 25th pick in the 2023 draft to Buffalo for Nos. 27 and 130. Buffalo used No. 25 on tight end Dalton Kincaid, while Jacksonville selected tackle Anton Harrison at No. 27 and defensive lineman Tyler Lacy at No. 130. Kincaid and Harrison both became meaningful young starters, leaving a balanced value exchange with additional depth value flowing to Jacksonville.
