Carolina Panthers received (past considerations). Carolina's return is preserved only as past considerations, so the exact financial or contractual value cannot be reconstructed from the surviving public record. Its C grade reflects the value of that return relative to what Cleveland Browns received. The grade remains tied to documented value for the acquiring club, without assigning credit for unresolved or hypothetical downstream consideration.
Carolina acquired defensive tackle Louis Leonard from Cleveland on September 1, 2009 for a 2010 sixth-round pick that became No. 186. Leonard appeared in four games across two Panthers seasons and made one start before injuries and roster turnover ended his stay. Cleveland used the pick on Clifton Geathers, who did not appear in a regular-season game for the Browns.
Carolina moved up from No. 93 to No. 77 in the 2016 third round and also received pick No. 141, selecting Daryl Worley and Zack Sanchez. Worley became a two-year starter for the Panthers before leaving in 2018, while Sanchez had a small role. The package produced useful but limited value, matching Cleveland's modest return closely enough to keep the deal balanced.
Carolina acquired veteran punter Andy Lee and a 2017 seventh-round pick for Kasey Redfern and a 2018 fourth. Lee punted well but lasted only nine games before a hamstring injury ended his season, and Carolina released him the next year. The seventh became Harrison Butker, whom the Panthers waived before his NFL success elsewhere, leaving only a short-lived return.
Cleveland moved from No. 59 to No. 52 in the 2021 draft to select linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, sending Carolina Nos. 52 and 113 for Nos. 59 and 89. Carolina selected Terrace Marshall at 59 and later moved the 89th pick, while Cleveland landed a high-impact linebacker who reached the Pro Bowl. Both sides created value, but Owusu-Koramoah gives Cleveland the narrow edge.
Carolina acquired Baker Mayfield from Cleveland in July 2022 for a conditional 2024 fifth-round pick. The condition tied to playing time did not rise to a fourth-rounder, but Mayfield still failed to stabilize the Panthers' quarterback situation and was released during the season. Cleveland recovered draft value for a quarterback it had already replaced, while Carolina paid for a short, unsuccessful stint that ended before the year was over.
