Carolina Panthers received

Denver Broncos received

  • 1996 fourth round pick (#122-Darrius Johnson)
  • 1996 fifth round pick (#159-Patrick Jeffers)
  • 1996 seventh round pick (#235-L.T. Levine)

Denver sent Carolina the 111th pick in the 1996 draft, used on Emmanuel McDaniel, and received Nos. 122, 159 and 235. The Broncos selected Darrius Johnson, Patrick Jeffers and L.T. Levine. Johnson played 63 NFL games, while Jeffers later produced a 1,082-yard season in Carolina after leaving Denver. The three-pick return created more total NFL value than Carolina's single selection, giving Denver the advantage.

Trade 2

March 2, 1999

Denver Broncos Win
Carolina Panthers D
Denver Broncos B-

Carolina Panthers received

  • Jeff Lewis

Denver Broncos received

  • 1999 3rd round pick (67th overall, Chris Watson)

Denver traded quarterback Jeff Lewis to Carolina for the 67th pick in the 1999 draft and selected defensive back Chris Watson. Watson played 58 NFL games, including 14 as a rookie in Denver, while Lewis never developed into Carolina’s long-term quarterback answer. The Broncos did not land a star, but converting a blocked young quarterback into a third-round pick produced the better return.

Trade 3

April 26, 2003

Carolina Panthers Win
Carolina Panthers B+
Denver Broncos C+

Carolina Panthers received

  • 2003 third-round pick (No. 82, Ricky Manning Jr.)

Denver Broncos received

  • 2003 fourth-round pick (No. 108, Quentin Griffin)
  • 2003 fourth-round pick (No. 120; traded to New England the next day)
  • 2003 seventh-round pick (No. 227, Clint Mitchell)

Carolina moved up for cornerback Ricky Manning Jr., surrendering three later picks to Denver. Manning immediately justified the gamble, starting during the Panthers’ 2003 NFC title run and intercepting three passes in the NFC Championship Game. Denver received Quentin Griffin, Clint Mitchell and pick No. 120, which it flipped the next day, but the package never produced comparable direct impact for the Broncos.

Carolina Panthers Win
Carolina Panthers B-
Denver Broncos C

Carolina Panthers received

  • Jason Baker
  • 2006 seventh round pick (#237-Stanley McClover)

Denver Broncos received

  • Todd Sauerbrun

Carolina sent punter Todd Sauerbrun to Denver in May 2005 and received punter Jason Baker plus Denver's 2006 seventh-round pick, No. 237, later used on Stanley McClover. The draft choice was in 2006, not 2005, and Baker should be listed separately from it. Carolina replaced its punter while adding a future asset, giving the Panthers the stronger overall return.

Trade 5

April 27, 2019

Carolina Panthers Win
Carolina Panthers B
Denver Broncos D+

  • 2019 7th round pick (237th overall, Terry Godwin)

Carolina Panthers received the 2019 sixth- and seventh-round picks that became Dennis Daley and Terry Godwin after Denver moved up for Juwann Winfree. Daley supplied 34 games and 21 starts for Carolina, giving the Panthers a tangible multi-season return from a modest draft-day move. That useful starting experience is enough for a B grade and the winning side.

April 28, 2021

Denver Broncos Win
Carolina Panthers C+
Denver Broncos B+

Carolina Panthers received

  • 2021 6th round pick (191st overall subsequently traded, Tarron Jackson)

Denver Broncos received

  • Teddy Bridgewater

Denver acquired quarterback Teddy Bridgewater from Carolina for a 2021 sixth-round pick, with the Panthers also absorbing part of his salary. Bridgewater became the Broncos' primary starter in 2021 and delivered credible veteran quarterback play at a minimal acquisition cost. Carolina recovered only a late pick after moving on from him. Denver did not find a permanent solution, but the one-season return easily justified the price.

Trade 7

April 25, 2025

Carolina Panthers Win
Carolina Panthers B-
Denver Broncos C+

Carolina Panthers received

  • 2025 2nd round pick (51st overall, Nic Scourton)
  • 2025 3rd round pick (85th overall subsequently traded, Nohl Williams)
  • 2025 4th round pick (122nd overall, Lathan Ransom)

  • 2025 3rd round pick (74th overall, Pat Bryant)
  • 2025 4th round pick (111th overall subsequently traded, Ty Robinson)
  • 2025 7th round pick (230th overall subsequently traded, Dan Jackson)

Carolina and Denver exchanged four 2025 draft selections apiece. The Panthers moved to No. 51 for Nic Scourton and also received Nos. 85, 122 and 208; Denver received Nos. 57, 74, 111 and 230. Scourton produced five sacks as a rookie, while Denver used and later moved its acquired capital in several ways. Carolina's immediate hit at a premium defensive position supports a B-, with Denver at C+.
