Carolina Panthers received
1995 1st round pick (22nd overall, Tyrone Poole)
1995 6th round pick (188th overall, Steve Strahan)
Green Bay Packers received
1995 1st round pick (32nd overall, Craig Newsome)
1995 3rd round pick (65th overall, Darius Holland)
1995 6th round pick (173rd overall, Charlie Simmons)
Carolina moved from No. 32 to No. 22 in the first round of the 1995 draft and also received pick 188, sending Green Bay picks 32, 65 and 173. The Panthers selected cornerback Tyrone Poole, who had a long NFL career but spent only three seasons in Carolina. Green Bay used No. 32 on Craig Newsome, a starter on its Super Bowl XXXI championship team, and added two more picks. The Packers’ broader return earns the edge.
Carolina Panthers traded Jamie Wilson to Green Bay for an undisclosed draft choice in August 1999. Wilson was gone from the Packers within days and never generated regular-season value there, leaving Carolina as the only side that clearly extracted an asset from the completed transaction. The unidentified downstream pick limits the ceiling, but a C+ still gives Carolina a modest win.
Carolina moved up from the fourth round to pick 89 and selected defensive tackle Atiyyah Ellison, sending Green Bay picks 115 and 126. Ellison never played a regular-season game for the Panthers. Green Bay selected Marviel Underwood with one pick and traded the other for three later selections, producing limited but still clearly greater value than Carolina received from its failed trade-up.
Carolina Panthers received J.J. Jansen from Green Bay Packers, sending 2011 conditional 7th round pick (204th overall subsequently traded, Virgil Green) the other way. Jansen became a long-tenured Panther and Pro Bowler, making Carolina the clear winner. That outcome supports a A grade for Carolina Panthers, and the overall verdict is Carolina Panthers Win.
Carolina sent pick No. 88 to Green Bay for Nos. 101 and 147. The Panthers selected tight end Ian Thomas at No. 101 and later used No. 147 in another trade that helped them reach No. 136 for edge rusher Marquis Haynes. Thomas and Haynes both supplied multi-year Carolina roles, giving the Panthers broader realized value than Green Bay received from Oren Burks.
