Carolina acquired safety Perry Phenix from Tennessee in September 2001 for a conditional 2002 seventh-round pick that was never exercised. Phenix appeared in only two games for the Panthers before leaving, while Tennessee ultimately received no draft selection. The deal produced almost no lasting value for either side, making an even grade more appropriate than a Panthers win.
Tennessee traded up to No. 109 in the 2021 draft for receiver Dez Fitzpatrick, sending Carolina picks 126, 166 and 232. The Panthers used those selections on Chuba Hubbard, Keith Taylor and Phil Hoskins. Hubbard developed into a productive starting running back and earned a long-term extension, while Fitzpatrick made only a limited NFL impact. Carolina's move-down produced the clear long-term winner.
Carolina sent Dennis Daley and a 2024 seventh-round pick to Tennessee for a 2024 fifth-rounder. Daley became the Titans' emergency starting left tackle and started 15 games in 2022, so Tennessee received real short-term utility. He left after one season, while Carolina upgraded a late-round asset by two rounds and moved a player who had been squeezed by improved offensive-line depth, giving the Panthers the better value.
