New York acquired kicker-end John Aveni from Chicago on June 30, 1961, sending defensive back Dave Whitsell and its 1962 eighth-round pick, No. 110, to the Bears. The Giants moved Aveni again within a week as part of a three-team deal. Chicago received the durable centerpiece: Whitsell played all 84 Bears regular-season games from 1961 through 1966 and intercepted 26 passes.
