Miami Dolphins received
1968 first round pick (#27-Doug Crusan)
1968 second round pick (#54-Jim Cox)
Cincinnati acquired quarterback John Stofa from Miami before the franchise’s inaugural 1968 season, surrendering two draft choices that became No. 27 Doug Crusan and No. 54 Jim Cox. Stofa started seven games for the expansion Bengals and threw for 896 yards and five touchdowns. That immediate quarterback help mattered, but Miami’s return included a first-round tackle who became a multi-year starter.
Cincinnati Bengals received Les Shy; Miami Dolphins received Ron Lamb. Shy suffered an Achilles injury in the preseason and went to injured reserve without a regular-season appearance for Cincinnati. Miami acquired Lamb, then released him before the regular season; Atlanta claimed him and he played seven games there instead. The realized returns support Even Trade, with Cincinnati Bengals graded C and Miami Dolphins graded C.
1986 conditional pick (if Clark makes Dolphins roster) (not exercised)
Miami Dolphins received
Bryan Clark
Cincinnati Bengals received 1986 conditional pick (if Clark makes Dolphins roster) (not exercised) from Miami Dolphins in the 1985-05-06 trade. Miami acquired quarterback Bryan Clark, but Cincinnati's historical material records that Clark did not make the Dolphins' regular-season roster. Miami Dolphins's return was Bryan Clark. Because Clark failed to make the Miami roster, the conditional 1986 pick was not exercised. Those realized outcomes, rather than the labels on the assets alone, drive the hindsight grade.
