Cincinnati traded veteran tight end Dan Ross to Seattle on October 15, 1985, for a 1986 fourth-round pick, No. 99 overall. The Bengals used the selection on quarterback Doug Gaynor, who appeared in only one NFL game for Cincinnati. Ross gave Seattle immediate receiving help and was later traded again, leaving the Seahawks with the better realized return.

Seattle acquired offensive tackle Mike Wilson from Cincinnati in August 1986 for a 1987 third-round selection, No. 77 overall. Wilson became a four-season Seattle starter and made 60 starts for the Seahawks, giving the club substantial line stability from the deal. That volume of starting work represents a strong return for one third-round pick and makes Seattle the hindsight winner.

Seattle Seahawks received

  • Carlos Dunlap

Seattle acquired Carlos Dunlap from Cincinnati for lineman B.J. Finney and a 2021 seventh-round pick. Dunlap immediately helped revive the Seahawks' pass rush, posting five sacks after the trade and 8.5 more in 2021 for 13.5 sacks across 25 games. Cincinnati received little from Finney and used the pick on Wyatt Hubert, who never played after a pectoral injury and later retired. Seattle won decisively at a very small cost.
