Minnesota Vikings received
1968 third round pick (#76-Mike McGill)
Dallas acquired Lance Rentzel from Minnesota for the 1968 third-round pick that became No. 76. Rentzel developed into a major Cowboys deep threat, topping 950 receiving yards in both 1968 and 1969 and catching 12 touchdowns in 1969. Minnesota used the pick on linebacker Mike McGill, but his return did not approach Rentzel's sustained production, giving Dallas the clear advantage.
undisclosed high draft pick (selection not identified)
Minnesota Vikings received
Jim Colvin / Rocky Colvin
Dallas received an undisclosed high draft choice when Minnesota acquired Jim Colvin, also listed as Rocky Colvin. Colvin spent part of the Vikings' 1967 preseason with the club but was returned to Dallas after a knee injury prevented him from playing. Because the attempted acquisition produced no regular-season value and the exact pick cannot be traced securely, the documented results do not establish a clear Dallas advantage.

1990 fifth round pick (#116-Reggie Thornton)
1990 tenth round pick (#249-Pat Newman)
1991 third round pick (#68-(Willie) Jake Reed)
The Herschel Walker trade became the NFL's most famous franchise-altering deal. Minnesota acquired the star running back, but Dallas turned the return into the foundation of a dynasty. The Vikings chased immediate contention. The Cowboys collected the assets that helped reshape their future, making this the benchmark for every blockbuster trade that followed. The deal remains the gold standard for a franchise-altering trade win.
Minnesota and Dallas swapped former second-round cornerbacks Nahshon Wright and Andrew Booth Jr. during the 2024 preseason. Wright appeared in one regular-season game for the Vikings. Booth played seven games and made two starts for Dallas. The Cowboys received more immediate snaps, but neither player became a durable contributor for the acquiring club.
