Dallas Cowboys received
2007 sixth round pick (#200 overall, conditional; later traded to Cleveland)
New York Jets received
Pete Hunter
Dallas traded Pete Hunter to the Jets for a conditional selection that ultimately became the 2007 sixth-round pick at No. 200, not an undisclosed 2006 choice. Hunter never appeared in a Jets regular-season game. Dallas later packaged No. 200 with No. 234 to move up to No. 195, so the Cowboys retained usable draft leverage without being credited for a downstream player they did not select with No. 200. That makes Dallas the clear value winner.
2006 sixth-round pick (No. 189; traded by Dallas the next day)
2006 seventh-round pick (No. 211, Pat McQuistan)
New York Jets received
2006 second-round pick (No. 49, Kellen Clemens)
Dallas moved down from No. 49 in the 2006 draft and received No. 53, No. 189 and No. 211 from the Jets. The Cowboys used No. 53 on Anthony Fasano and No. 211 on Pat McQuistan, while No. 189 was moved in a separate next-day trade. The added depth of the package produced more practical value than New York's selection of Kellen Clemens.
2006 5th round pick (150th overall, Jason Pociask)
2006 6th round pick (189th overall, Drew Coleman)
Dallas selected Pat Watkins with the acquired fifth-round pick. Watkins gave the Cowboys four seasons of safety and special-teams service, appearing regularly and providing useful depth in the secondary. He was a real contributor rather than a failed selection, but his overall role and impact were modest compared with the longer combined service New York received from its two selections.
2007 7th round pick (212th overall, Courtney Brown)
New York Jets received
Sean Ryan
Dallas Cowboys received 2007 7th round pick (212th overall, Courtney Brown) from New York Jets. Dallas received the seventh-round choice later used on Courtney Brown. Brown supplied limited defensive-back depth, giving the Cowboys a modest return from the late selection. That outcome supports a C grade for Dallas Cowboys. The final verdict is Even Trade, based on the football value the club actually realized from the assets it controlled after the exchange.
Dallas spent a future fifth-round pick to move back into the 2017 draft and select safety Xavier Woods at No. 191. Woods became a four-year Dallas contributor with 60 games, 48 starts and five interceptions. New York later recycled the No. 157 pick through two draft-day trades that produced Folorunso Fatukasi and Trenton Cannon, giving the Jets useful value but not quite the same immediate return.
2027 first-round pick, better of Dallas-owned selections
Dallas made a deadline-level investment for Quinnen Williams, sending Mazi Smith, a 2026 second-round pick and the better of its two 2027 first-rounders to New York. Williams immediately became a centerpiece of the Cowboys' front and earned another Pro Bowl selection in 2025. The Jets accumulated major future capital, but the unresolved 2027 first keeps their ultimate return open.
