Detroit Lions received
Rob Fredrickson
Las Vegas Raiders received
1998 4th round pick (113th overall; subsequently traded to Washington)
Detroit acquired linebacker Rob Fredrickson from Oakland on March 24, 1998 for the 113th pick. Fredrickson started all 16 games for the Lions that season, recorded 2.5 sacks and produced a seven-point Approximate Value season before leaving for Arizona. Oakland later packaged No. 113 with a seventh-round pick to move to No. 109 and draft Gennaro DiNapoli. Detroit received the stronger immediate return from the original exchange.
The then-Oakland Raiders acquired Josh McCown and former first-round receiver Mike Williams from Detroit for the 105th pick in the 2007 draft. McCown started nine games and threw 10 touchdowns for Oakland, while Williams was waived during the season. Detroit used the fourth-rounder on A.J. Davis and did not gain enough from the pick to overcome McCown's short-term value.
Las Vegas Raiders received 2012 5th round pick (158th overall, Jack Crawford); 2012 7th round pick (230th overall, Nathan Stupar) in the 2012-04-28 exchange with Detroit Lions. Jack Crawford became a long-lived rotational lineman and Nathan Stupar also carved out a multi-year NFL role, giving Oakland substantially more cumulative value. The direct return and the football value it produced drive the hindsight judgment. Against the assets Las Vegas Raiders surrendered, the result supports Las Vegas Raiders Win and a B grade for Las Vegas Raiders.
2020 5th round pick (172nd overall, Jason Huntley)
Las Vegas Raiders received
2020 4th round pick (109th overall, John Simpson)
Las Vegas moved up from No. 121 to No. 109, sending Detroit an additional fifth-round pick at No. 172. The Raiders selected guard John Simpson, who developed into a starting offensive lineman and logged significant snaps before leaving the club. Detroit used the return on Logan Stenberg and Jason Huntley, but neither became a comparable long-term contributor for the Lions. The realized value favors Las Vegas.
