Jacksonville Jaguars received Pete Mitchell. Jacksonville received Pete Mitchell, who became a productive multi-season receiving tight end and supplied meaningful offensive value for the young franchise. Its B grade reflects the value of that return relative to what Miami Dolphins received. The grade remains tied to documented value for the acquiring club, without assigning credit for unresolved or hypothetical downstream consideration.
Miami sent Jacksonville the 60th and 99th picks for four selections: Nos. 79, 98, 134 and 150. The Dolphins' most valuable direct result was Shane Burton, who played 47 games and made 12 starts for Miami before continuing a 125-game NFL career. Jacksonville selected Michael Cheever at No. 60 and later moved No. 99 for more picks. Both teams created useful pieces, but Miami's larger package produced the better direct return.
Miami acquired defensive tackle Tony McDaniel from Jacksonville for the 232nd pick in the 2009 draft. McDaniel spent four seasons with the Dolphins, appearing in 54 games and providing steady rotational interior-line work with seven sacks. Jacksonville later combined No. 232 with a future second-rounder to move up for Derek Cox, so the pick retained value, but Miami received the stronger direct return.
2011 7th round pick (218th overall subsequently traded, Ryan Taylor)
Miami traded guard Justin Smiley to Jacksonville for a conditional 2011 seventh-round pick. Smiley started only five games for the Jaguars before his NFL career ended. The pick became No. 218, and Miami later packaged it in the draft-day move that produced Charles Clay and Frank Kearse. Clay became a four-year offensive starter and receiving threat for the Dolphins, turning a minor veteran sale into substantial downstream value.
Jacksonville Jaguars received Branden Albert from Miami Dolphins, sending conditional 2018 pick (not conveyed) the other way. The current not-conveyed treatment therefore captures the realized transaction correctly. That outcome supports a C- grade for Jacksonville Jaguars, and the overall verdict is Even Trade. The grade stays proportional to the size of the exchange and the direct value created for the original club.
Miami traded quarterback Quinn Ewers to Jacksonville on August 29, 2026 for a sixth-round selection in the 2028 NFL Draft, pending a physical. Ewers had already made three rookie starts, giving Jacksonville inexpensive quarterback depth with actual regular-season experience. Miami converted a former seventh-round investment into a higher future pick while reshaping its quarterback room.
