The Vikings used No. 140 on Allen Rice, who spent seven seasons in Minnesota, appeared in 89 games and scored 19 touchdowns for the club. The Raiders selected Andy Parker at No. 127, but his limited offensive production left Minnesota with the stronger realized return.

Minnesota Vikings received

  • 1989 twelfth round pick (#335-Everett Ross)

Minnesota acquired the 1989 No. 335 pick from the Raiders and selected Everett Ross, sending a future 1990 eleventh-rounder in return. That future choice became No. 298, which the Raiders later included in a draft-day trade with Chicago and which the Bears used on Roman Matusz. Ross did not play an NFL regular-season game, and the Raiders' asset produced only minor trade currency, making the exchange effectively even.

Las Vegas Raiders received

  • Randy Moss

Minnesota Vikings received

  • Napoleon Harris, 2005 1st round pick (7th overall, Troy Williamson) and 2005 7th round pick (219th overall, Adrian Ward)

Oakland acquired the only transcendent player in the deal, Randy Moss, for Napoleon Harris and two draft selections. Moss still produced a 1,000-yard season in 2005 and remained the most talented asset by a wide margin, even though his two Raiders seasons fell short of his Minnesota and later New England peaks. Because Minnesota failed to convert the premium No. 7 pick into a lasting star, Oakland won the direct exchange without turning it into a franchise-changing success.

Minnesota took Nick Muse at No. 227 and immediately flipped No. 126 for Nos. 165 and 169, adding Esezi Otomewo and Ty Chandler.
