Seattle sent two veterans to San Diego and received future fifth-round selections in 1984 and 1985. Those picks became No. 125 Jeff Pegues and No. 123 Mark Napolitan, preserving useful draft flexibility even though the first selection later moved again. Compared with the limited Chargers production from the incoming veterans, Seattle's two-pick package held the stronger overall direct value.
San Diego received the 1994 fifth-round selection used on Darren Krein. Krein did not develop into a meaningful regular-season contributor for the Chargers, leaving the club with little realized value from the move. Because the outgoing consideration became a future fourth-rounder that Seattle used on a long-tenured specialist, the Chargers' side of the exchange grades well below Seattle's.
Seattle paid the 40th pick and a 2011 third-rounder to San Diego for quarterback Charlie Whitehurst and pick No. 60. The Chargers ultimately tied the incoming capital to Koa Misi and Shareece Wright, while Seattle used No. 60 on Golden Tate. Tate became the best individual player connected to the exchange, but Whitehurst never solved Seattle's quarterback need, and the extra third-round cost gives the Chargers the stronger total return.
Seattle acquired rookie cornerback Avery Smith from the Chargers for a 2027 sixth-round pick on August 30, 2026, pending physicals. Smith was an undrafted rookie who impressed during the preseason and made Seattle’s initial roster, giving the Seahawks a young system fit at nickel and outside corner. The Chargers still win the first valuation because turning an undrafted rookie into a sixth-round pick before he plays a regular-season snap is exceptional asset conversion.
