Nick DeFelice
Miami reacquired center Mike Hudock from the New York Jets for tackle Nick DeFelice. Hudock's second Dolphins stay was brief, and he moved on again during 1967 without becoming a meaningful long-term return. DeFelice likewise did not develop into a significant Jets contributor after the swap. With neither club receiving durable on-field value, the exchange is best treated as even rather than forcing a winner from two limited returns.
Miami acquired quarterback Archie Roberts from the New York Jets on September 26, 1967, for its 1968 eighth-round selection, which became No. 200 Bob Taylor. Roberts appeared in one Dolphins game, completing five of ten passes for 11 yards with an interception. Taylor never played an NFL regular-season game, leaving both teams with only modest on-field value from the exchange.
The Jets acquired defensive lineman Larry Woods. Miami received the 1975 sixth-round pick that became linebacker Steve Towle, who played 78 NFL games and became a substantial contributor for the Dolphins. A sixth-round asset turning into a multi-season linebacker is exactly the kind of surplus value that separates this from an even exchange. Woods did not provide New York a comparable return.
Miami acquired offensive lineman John Mooring from the Jets on August 28, 1974, while New York received the 1975 sixth-round choice that became Tom Alward at No. 153. Mooring did not establish himself in Miami and was assigned to New Orleans on waivers less than two weeks later. Alward did not provide direct Jets value from the acquired choice, so neither side converted the exchange into a meaningful long-term return. The realized value on both sides makes an even verdict the fairest result.
conditional future considerations only if Hill made Miami roster (condition not met)
Miami acquired veteran tackle Winston Hill from the Jets in July 1977 for conditional future consideration payable only if Hill made the Dolphins roster. Hill did not make Miami’s regular-season team, so the condition did not trigger.
New York acquired Minkah Fitzpatrick from Miami for only the No. 238 pick and then committed to the veteran safety on a new multi-year contract. The Jets added a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro at a position of need for seventh-round cost. Miami gained a late selection and financial flexibility, but the known talent exchange strongly favors New York before the 2026 season.
