Minnesota acquired Tampa Bay's 1992 ninth-round pick for defensive back Jimmy Williams and used No. 227 on quarterback Brad Johnson. Williams gave the Buccaneers useful short-term defensive work, but Johnson became a significant Vikings quarterback and later remained a valuable NFL asset. Minnesota's direct years of starting quarterback play from such a low-cost selection make this a decisive Vikings win.
Minnesota moved up only four spots in the fourth round, paying a sixth-round pick to secure Brian Robison at No. 102. Robison became an eleven-year Viking, played 173 games, and recorded 60 sacks while filling starting and rotational roles across multiple defensive eras. That is exceptional return from a small draft-day move. Tampa Bay found two legitimate contributors after moving down, but Minnesota secured the single player with the greater longevity and cumulative impact.
Minnesota traded the 2013 No. 189 selection to Tampa Bay for picks No. 196 and No. 229. The Buccaneers used No. 189 on running back Mike James, while the Vikings selected guard Jeff Baca and defensive tackle Everett Dawkins. James produced the most meaningful NFL contribution of the three, including 351 rushing yards across his career. Minnesota's two-player return offered depth but very little sustained value.
Minnesota sent pick No. 94 to Tampa Bay for Nos. 102 and 180. The Buccaneers used No. 94 on Alex Cappa, who developed into a starting right guard and played on the 2020 Super Bowl championship team. Minnesota drafted Jalyn Holmes at No. 102 and later moved No. 180 in another trade, but the resulting branch produced far less Vikings value than Cappa delivered in Tampa Bay.
