New York acquired defensive back Bill Currier from New England on August 31, 1981 for the Giants' 1982 eleventh-round draft choice. Currier immediately became a starter, opening 14 games in 1981 and remaining with New York through 1985. Across five Giants seasons he appeared in 51 regular-season games with 48 starts and eight interceptions.

New York Giants received
Bill Matthews
New York acquired linebacker Bill Matthews from New England on August 2, 1982 for a draft choice that was ultimately recorded as the Giants' 1983 tenth-round pick, No. 264. Matthews injured his knee during the 1982 preseason and never appeared in a regular-season game for the Giants. New England used No. 264 on tight end James Williams, who was released before the 1983 regular season.
New England Patriots received Michael Matthews; New York Giants received conditional 2011 pick that did not convey. Matthews appeared in four games for New England without a start or reception. The Giants' conditional 2011 pick did not convey, leaving New York without a realized draft asset. The realized outcomes support New England Patriots Win, with New England Patriots graded C+ and New York Giants graded C.
