Trade Analysis
Buffalo entered the 2022 first round determined to add a cornerback and moved from No. 25 to No. 23 to select Florida's Kaiir Elam. The Bills sent Baltimore picks 25 and 130. The Ravens had acquired No. 23 from Arizona in the Marquise Brown trade and were willing to slide two spots while adding a fourth-round selection.
Baltimore's result became exceptional. The Ravens selected Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum at No. 25. After a strong rookie season, Linderbaum made the Pro Bowl in 2023, 2024 and 2025, establishing himself as one of the league's premier centers. Baltimore used No. 130 on punter Jordan Stout. By 2025, Stout also made the Pro Bowl, leading the NFL in net punting average late in the season and becoming a high-level special-teams contributor. One modest move down therefore produced two players who earned league-wide recognition.
Elam never delivered comparable value in Buffalo. He played three seasons for the Bills but started only 12 regular-season games, recording 81 tackles and two interceptions. Buffalo eventually traded Elam and a 2025 sixth-round pick to Dallas for a 2025 fifth and a 2026 seventh. The Bills recovered some capital rather than losing him for nothing, but the move confirmed that he had not become the long-term starting corner envisioned when Buffalo traded up.
This outcome is especially stark because Baltimore did not merely win a trade-value chart. The Ravens converted both acquired picks into important players, while Buffalo's targeted selection became a rotational corner who was later moved.
Baltimore's existing A should rise to A+. Buffalo's D remains appropriate. Linderbaum's three Pro Bowls would be enough to establish a strong Ravens win by themselves; Stout's 2025 Pro Bowl season turns the trade into one of Baltimore's best draft-day moves of the period.
