The Jets sent Tennessee picks 35, 69 and 163 for Nos. 26 and 101, selecting Jermaine Johnson and Jeremy Ruckert. Johnson became a 2023 Pro Bowler before an Achilles tear cost him most of 2024, while Ruckert developed into a regular tight end and earned an extension. Trade Analysis
New York traded back into the first round in 2022 because it wanted Florida State edge rusher Jermaine Johnson. The Jets sent Tennessee picks 35, 69 and 163 for Nos. 26 and 101. New York selected Johnson and tight end Jeremy Ruckert. Tennessee used its three selections on cornerback Roger McCreary, tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere and receiver Kyle Philips.
Johnson supplied the highest individual peak. After 2.5 sacks as a rookie, he broke out in 2023 with 55 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hits, 7.5 sacks and a pick-six, earning his first Pro Bowl selection. His momentum was interrupted by a ruptured Achilles in Week 2 of 2024. He returned in 2025 after a lengthy recovery, leaving the long-term evaluation more uncertain than it appeared after his Pro Bowl season.
Ruckert has steadily increased his role. By December 2025, the Jets had seen enough growth as both a receiver and in the run game to sign him to a multiyear extension. He finished four seasons with 58 catches for 443 yards and became a regular part of the offense.
Tennessee received more aggregate starting volume. McCreary appeared in 55 games for the Titans with 38 starts, recording three interceptions, 17 passes defensed and four sacks across his career before Tennessee traded him to the Rams during the 2025 season. Petit-Frere started at tackle over multiple seasons, while Philips flashed early but was waived with an injury settlement in 2024.
The original Titans-win verdict put too much weight on quantity and not enough on Johnson's Pro Bowl-level ceiling and Ruckert's continuing value. At the same time, Johnson's Achilles injury prevents New York from claiming a clear victory over multiple Titans starters.
Both clubs move to B grades and the verdict changes to Even Trade. Tennessee received more total snaps; New York received the best single season and still controls two useful players.
