New York moved down two spots on April 29, 2022, sending pick No. 36 to the Jets for Nos. 38 and 146. The Giants then flipped No. 38 to Atlanta for Nos. 43 and 114, selecting Wan'Dale Robinson and Dane Belton, while No. 146 became Micah McFadden. Across four Giants seasons those three selections produced substantial receiving, defensive and starting value, giving the trade-down a broad multi-player return.

Trade Analysis

The trade is straightforward once the two-step Giants sequence is separated correctly. On April 29, 2022, the Jets sent picks No. 38 and No. 146 to the Giants for No. 36, then selected Iowa State running back Breece Hall. New York held No. 38 only briefly. The Giants sent that selection to Atlanta for Nos. 43 and 114, using those picks on wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson and safety Dane Belton. The original No. 146 pick became linebacker Micah McFadden. The legacy row correctly recognized that No. 38 moved again, but identifying Arnold Ebiketie as the Giants' practical return stops the chain one trade too early.

Hall became a highly productive Jets player. Through Week 2 of 2026, NFL records credit him with 58 games, 3,529 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns on 793 carries. He also had 195 receptions for 1,721 yards and nine receiving touchdowns. That produces 5,250 yards from scrimmage and 28 rushing or receiving scores despite the torn ACL that shortened his rookie season. Hall topped 1,000 rushing yards in 2025 and remained the Jets' primary back in 2026. Any evaluation of this trade has to acknowledge that New York's move up successfully secured a long-term offensive centerpiece.

The Giants' response was depth of return rather than one star. Robinson played 54 regular-season games for the Giants from 2022 through 2025. He caught 268 passes for 2,465 yards and nine touchdowns during that four-year run, including a 92-catch, 1,014-yard season in 2025 before joining Tennessee in 2026. Belton appeared in 66 Giants games from 2022 through 2025 with 22 starts, totaling 240 combined tackles, six interceptions, four sacks and four forced fumbles. He moved to the Jets in 2026, but his Giants tenure had already produced four years of meaningful safety and special-teams value.

McFadden gave the Giants another productive defender from the direct No. 146 selection. Through Week 2 of 2026, NFL records credit him with 49 career games for New York, 236 combined tackles, six sacks, six passes defended and an interception. Injuries limited him in 2025 and early 2026, but his 2023 and 2024 seasons alone produced 185 tackles and four sacks. Unlike Robinson and Belton, McFadden remained with the Giants through the start of the 2026 season.

The hindsight edge belongs narrowly to the Giants because the original move down ultimately produced three legitimate multi-year contributors rather than one. Hall is the best individual player connected to the transaction and gives the Jets an excellent return on the move up, so this is not a poor trade for either team. But Robinson's four receiving seasons, Belton's four-year defensive role and McFadden's tackle production together create the broader realized asset base. An A for the Giants and A- for the Jets reflects that modest advantage while preserving full credit for Hall's star-level production.
