Cincinnati moved from No. 63 to No. 60 in the 2022 second round because the Bengals did not want to risk losing Nebraska cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt. Buffalo received No. 63 plus pick 209. The Bills selected Georgia running back James Cook at 63 and later used the sixth-rounder on Luke Tenuta, whose Buffalo stay was brief.
The trade has become a showcase for Cook's development. After a limited rookie role, he topped 1,000 rushing yards in 2023 and did it again in 2024. In 2025 he reached another level, carrying 307 times for 1,621 yards and 12 touchdowns to win the NFL rushing title. He also contributed as a receiver and earned second-team All-Pro honors. Cook has now made three Pro Bowls, and Buffalo signed him to a four-year extension through the 2029 season.
Taylor-Britt has been a useful player for Cincinnati rather than a miss. By the 2025 offseason, he had accumulated seven interceptions and 33 passes defensed over his first three seasons, including two interception returns for touchdowns. He recorded 77 tackles and three interceptions in 2024. His 2025 season was more difficult and eventually ended on injured reserve after he recorded 21 tackles. Even with the uneven fourth year, he gave Cincinnati meaningful starting cornerback value from the trade-up.
That makes the deal better for the Bengals than a simple Cook-versus-bust comparison. Cincinnati targeted a corner who started important games on playoff-caliber teams. The problem is that Buffalo landed one of the league's most productive running backs while moving down and collecting another selection.
The existing A- for Buffalo should rise to A+ after Cook's rushing title and All-Pro recognition. Cincinnati moves from C+ to B- because Taylor-Britt's multi-year starting work deserves respect. Buffalo still wins clearly: Cook became the best player in the transaction and is now under contract for his prime seasons.
