Trade Analysis

The draft-day exchange is documented cleanly by the NFL's 2022 trade tracker. Los Angeles received pick No. 164 from Las Vegas and sent back picks No. 175 and No. 238. The Rams used No. 164 on Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams. The Raiders selected Tennessee defensive tackle Matthew Butler at No. 175 and Ohio State offensive tackle Thayer Munford Jr. at No. 238. Unlike several nearby draft trades in the database, there is no downstream pick chain to untangle here because all three selections were exercised directly by the acquiring teams.

Williams became the clear centerpiece of the transaction. NFL and Rams records through the first two games of the 2026 season credit him with 57 regular-season games and 46 starts, 861 rushing attempts for 3,960 yards and 37 touchdowns, plus 116 receptions for 781 yards and nine receiving touchdowns. After a limited rookie season, he rushed for 1,144 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023, 1,299 yards and 14 scores in 2024, and 1,252 yards with 10 rushing touchdowns in 2025. He opened 2026 with another 126 rushing yards and two total touchdowns through two games. That is elite fifth-round return and sustained lead-back production across multiple seasons.

Las Vegas still received meaningful value from the move down. Munford played 17 games with four starts as a rookie, 15 games with 10 starts in 2023 and 14 games with four starts in 2024. That gave the Raiders 46 regular-season appearances and 18 starts across three seasons, with more than a thousand offensive snaps plus special-teams work. He then joined New England in 2025, so later Patriots production is not credited to Las Vegas. For a seventh-round selection, three seasons of rotational and starting tackle work is a strong outcome.

Butler's Raiders tenure was more modest. Pro Football Reference and ESPN records show six appearances in 2022, two in 2023 and seven in 2024, for 15 games and one start. He recorded 15 combined tackles and a half-sack during those three Las Vegas seasons. Butler then played for Miami in 2025, and that later production belongs to the Dolphins rather than the Raiders' side of this trade. The two incoming picks therefore gave Las Vegas one useful swing tackle and one depth defensive lineman, which is respectable value for moving down 11 spots.

The hindsight winner is nevertheless Los Angeles by a wide margin. Williams developed into a multi-year featured back with nearly 4,000 rushing yards and 46 total offensive touchdowns through early 2026, while the Raiders' two selections combined for useful but far less valuable roster contributions. An A+ for the Rams and B for Las Vegas reflects both realities: the Rams found a premium offensive contributor, and the Raiders still converted their trade-down into two players who made the roster and contributed over multiple seasons.
