Los Angeles sent picks No. 69 and No. 191 to Houston on April 28, 2023 for Nos. 73 and 161. The Rams then flipped No. 73 to New York for Nos. 89 and 128, selecting Kobie Turner and Stetson Bennett, while No. 161 became Nick Hampton. Trade Analysis

The original trade is broader than the legacy row recorded. On April 28, 2023, Los Angeles sent picks No. 69 and No. 191 to Houston for No. 73 and No. 161. The Texans used No. 69 on Houston wide receiver Tank Dell. The Rams did not make the No. 73 selection themselves; shortly afterward they traded it to the Giants for Nos. 89 and 128. Los Angeles then used those picks on defensive lineman Kobie Turner and quarterback Stetson Bennett. Pick No. 161 became edge defender Nick Hampton. The missing No. 191 asset is important because Houston received it in the original exchange and later converted it again.

Dell gave Houston immediate offensive value. NFL records credit him with 47 receptions for 709 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games as a rookie, then 51 catches for 667 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games in 2024. That is 98 receptions, 1,376 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns across 25 games. He missed the 2025 regular season after the serious knee injury suffered late in 2024, so the evaluation through September 2026 should not pretend the Texans received uninterrupted multi-year availability. Even with that interruption, Dell's first two seasons produced clear starter-level receiving impact from the move up.

Houston also retained value from No. 191. The Texans sent that pick to Philadelphia and received Nos. 230 and 248. Philadelphia then moved No. 191 to Tampa Bay, where it became Trey Palmer. Houston used No. 248 on Brandon Hill, while No. 230 was later included with a separate 2024 sixth-round pick in a trade with Buffalo for No. 205, used on Xavier Hutchinson. Because Houston had to add another future selection to obtain No. 205, Hutchinson cannot be credited wholly to this Rams trade. The defensible credit is that No. 191 became two later assets and helped create additional draft flexibility.

The Rams' No. 73 branch produced the most valuable outcome in the deal. Los Angeles traded No. 73 to New York for No. 89 and No. 128. Turner, selected at No. 89, had appeared in 53 regular-season games with 39 starts through Week 2 of 2026, recording 178 combined tackles and 24 sacks. He posted nine sacks as a rookie, eight in 2024 and seven in 2025 before beginning his fourth season as a full-time starter. Bennett, selected at No. 128, did not produce regular-season value until 2026 and had one appearance with 13 passing yards through Week 2. That branch is therefore overwhelmingly driven by Turner rather than the quarterback selection.

No. 161 gave Los Angeles a second direct player. Hampton appeared in 36 regular-season games from 2023 through 2025 without a start, recording 17 combined tackles and two passes defended. His contribution is modest, but it adds real roster value beyond Turner. The hindsight verdict favors Los Angeles because a productive starting defensive lineman with 24 sacks plus three seasons of Hampton depth outweighs Dell's injury-shortened receiving production and Houston's later sixth-round asset chain. An A for the Rams and B for the Texans reflects a clear Los Angeles advantage while still crediting Dell as a successful pick.
