Kansas City traded L'Jarius Sneed and pick No. 252 to…

Kansas City traded L'Jarius Sneed and pick No. 252 to Tennessee on March 29, 2024 for pick No. 221 and a 2025 third-round selection. The third-rounder became No. 66 Ashton Gillotte, who played all 17 games as a rookie and recorded 37 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a pass defended and an interception. Kansas City later included No. 221 in its larger 2024 first-round trade with Buffalo. Sneed's separate 2026 free-agent return to the Chiefs is not counted as trade compensation.

Trade Analysis

The exact structure is confirmed by both clubs and the NFL trade ledger. Kansas City sent cornerback L'Jarius Sneed and the No. 252 pick in the 2024 draft to Tennessee on March 29, 2024. The Titans sent back pick No. 221 and their 2025 third-round selection. Tennessee used No. 252 on Michigan edge defender Jaylen Harrell. The future third settled at No. 66 in 2025, where Kansas City selected Louisville edge defender Ashton Gillotte. The legacy row omitted the No. 221 asset entirely and therefore understated the Chiefs' side of the transaction.

Sneed's Tennessee tenure delivered less availability than the Titans expected. NFL career records show five games and five starts in 2024, followed by seven games and seven starts in 2025. Across those two seasons he totaled 49 combined tackles and three passes defended, with no interceptions. Tennessee officially released him as a vested veteran on March 13, 2026. The Chiefs then signed him as a free agent on June 9 to a separate one-year deal. That return to Kansas City is relevant context because Tennessee retained no player rights after two seasons, but TradeVerdicts does not count Sneed's 2026 Chiefs production as compensation from the 2024 trade.

Harrell gave Tennessee more continuity from the seventh-round swap. NFL records credit him with appearances in all 34 regular-season games across 2024 and 2025, including two starts in 2025. He developed from a special-teams and reserve role into a more productive pass-rush contributor, recording 4.5 sacks in his second season. That makes the No. 252 component a real part of Tennessee's return rather than a throw-in with no roster value.

Kansas City's future third-rounder also produced an active contributor. Gillotte played all 17 games as a 2025 rookie with two starts, recording 37 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one pass defended and one interception. Through the first two games of 2026 he had added three tackles. The No. 221 pick also remained useful trade capital: Kansas City included it with Nos. 32 and 95 in the 2024 draft-night deal with Buffalo that brought back Nos. 28, 133 and 248. Because the Chiefs contributed two much more valuable selections in that move, the later Xavier Worthy, Jaden Hicks and C.J. Hanson outcomes cannot be credited wholly or even primarily to the Sneed trade. The defensible credit is simply that No. 221 strengthened a larger move-up package.

Through September 2026, the trade remains close enough for an Even Trade verdict. Tennessee received 12 starts from Sneed plus two full seasons of availability and emerging sack production from Harrell. Kansas City converted the deal into a young rotational defender in Gillotte and an additional seventh-round asset that helped facilitate a separate first-round move. Neither side has yet produced a decisive long-term advantage from the direct compensation. B- grades for both teams reflect useful but incomplete returns, with Sneed's limited Titans availability offset by Harrell's development and Gillotte's ongoing value.
